All Saints’ Academy A Level student, Marcelina, took her passion for fashion photography to Milan when she completed a work experience assignment with a professional team.
Marcelina, 17, who studies Photography, Psychology and Art, worked with renowned fashion photographer Sara El Beshbichi throughout Milano Fashion Week.
Marcelina was assigned the planning of two photo shoots with the help of hair and make-up artist Claudia Ricci, stylist Andrew Seghesio and models from the 26 Milano Agency.
Shooting in the photography studios in the Instituto Italiano di Fotografia, Sara guided Marcelina through the editing process and gave her invaluable tips on how to achieve photos at a professional standard.
Reflecting on the training she received, Marcelina commented “This was a really beneficial hands-on experience that gave me a clear insight into working in the fashion photography and creative directing industry. I gained a lot of knowledge from this, especially how to communicate my ideas with a team of professionals and direct a photography production.”
Although Marcelina has always shown a keen interest in photography, she first thought about pursuing it as a career after taking part in a school project in Year 10, during which she worked with the ASHA brand and marketing agency in Cheltenham on an art project. The work Marcelina produced during this assignment was showcased in a London gallery and even published in an arts book.
Whilst studying for her GCSEs, she became particularly interested in fashion photography which inspired her to study an A Level in the subject. Marcelina is hoping to further her studies next year at University of Arts London, where she has applied to study Fashion Photography.
Determined to make her mark in the industry, Marcelina said “I know the field is incredibly competitive so getting work experience is vital to making sure I stand out to employers and improve my skills.”

All Saints’ Academy Photography Teacher Mr Chilman added "Marcelina is an outstanding student and a brilliant photographer who has a clear idea of what she wants to communicate through her photography. She has grown from strength to strength throughout the course, with her best work yet to come. This work experience in Milan has provided her with the inspiration and opportunity to shine and I look forward to seeing her succeed in the fashion industry in years to come."
